This 4-day course is designed to cover the understanding and use of the NAVFAC AMI System and all of the customization that gets incorporated into these systems. Students will gain a greater understanding of all the components that make up the AMI system and how they all tie together to act as a powerful Energy Management tool. Students will learn how to navigate the Web Client tools to extract data from the PME database. They will also learn best practices for configuring new devices, as well as integrating them into the AMI system. Lab activities will include viewing data of all types using the various tools built into the ION Enterprise/StruxureWare Power Monitoring software package, as well as hardware and software troubleshooting. This course is intended to be a step above the training that has already been delivered locally to each individual base. The topics covered will not only cover how to use what has been provided to the US Navy, but how the end user can customize the system above and beyond in order to make it their own.

Who should attend

Anyone who will be using or is already using the NAVFAC AMI System, preferably those who have already attended the local on-base training and gathered a working knowledge of the system. This training is geared more toward those making strategic decisions regarding the AMI System as opposed to simply the everyday user.


  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Windows
  • Basic metering terminology
  • Prior attendance at local on-base AMI training, or at least some self-guided experience using the AMI System if attendance was not possible at the original training

Students will be able to

  • Understand the various components and topologies of the NAVFAC AMI
  • Verify the configuration of meters in the AMI System
  • Conduct real-time monitoring using various tools
  • Develop a Dashboard to show summaries of data on a home-page diagram
  • Add Schneider Electric devices into the AMI System
  • Create virtual meters from existing hardware of VIP calculations
  • Perform troubleshooting tasks to pinpoint system maintenance and repair
  • Understand the basics of working with wireless radio communications devices
  • Extract data from the AMI System for integration in the CIRCUITS software
